3. Seiko

Seiko carries several worlds’ first historical batons, one of which happens to be the world’s first quartz watch. While it is true that the first quartz clock was built by Warren Marrison, Seiko developed the first radio broadcast quartz clock which was the size of

By 1964 Seiko produced the Crystal Chronometer QC-951 which weighed only 3 kilos. It was the first quartz timepiece to ever be used at the Tokyo Olympic Games. It is around this same time period that many Swiss watchmakers were in a dead heat to develop a quartz watch; and Seiko President, Shoji Hattori commissioned a special project team to do just that within a year’s time in1968. December 25, 1969 Seiko released the worlds’ first quartz watch, Quartz Astron with an 18 karat case.
